    • Unity Homes built this 1,758-square-foot custom home in Walpole, New Hampshire, to the high performance criteria of the U.S. Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program.
    • The owners of this energy-efficient home can expect to save $2,200 per year in energy costs compared to a home built just to code.
    • The wall panels for the home were constructed in a factory.
    • South-facing windows bathe the great room in natural light.
    • The triple-glazed, low-e2, tilt-and-turn and casement windows (U-0.20, SHGC-0.46) have strong insulating capabilities while letting in significant light for solar heat gain.
    • The kitchen is equipped with high-efficiency appliances.
    • The high-efficiency air-source heat pump (9.5 HSPF, SEER 17.3) has two indoor air handlers: one ductless and one ducted to provide heating and cooling throughout the home.
    • The walls were constructed of 9.5-inch I-studs then dense-packed with cellulose insulation and sheathed with a 5/8-inch coated OSB product on the exterior and a ½-inch OSB on the interior. A 1.5-inch service cavity was constructed to the interior of that and surfaced with 5/8-inch drywall to provide space for wiring and electrical boxes without disrupting the wall air barrier.
    • The walls and floors of the home were constructed in a factory and brought to the site for quick assembly.
    • The walls of the crawlspace were insulated with 3 inches of XPS rigid foam (R-15) and an additional 3 inches of rigid foam covered the ground under the entire crawlspace slab.
