Double ZeroHouse 3.0

    • KB Home built this 2,612-square-foot home in El Dorado Hills, California, to the performance criteria of the U.S. Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program.
    • The DoubleZero House 3.0 by KB Home is projected to have zero energy bills thanks to high-efficiency construction and rooftop solar electric panels. It will also use zero city water for irrigation thanks to an on-site water recycling system that collects shower and sink water for irrigation.
    • The home's 7.0-kW solar electric power offsets all of the home's electricity needs and includes an integrated energy storage system with the ability to provide backup power for critical loads during power outages.
    • Water-efficient landscaping practices minimize irrigation needs.
    • The home is equipped with 100% ultra-efficient LED lighting with a lighting control system that allows the homeowner to adjust lighting remotely from any Internet-connected device.
    • The high-efficiency ENERGY STAR-rated dishwasher and refrigerator add to water and energy savings. The home's dishwasher uses 33% less water than other efficient dishwashers by saving water from the last rinse cycle for use in the first prerinse cycle of the next load.

    • ENERGY STAR ceiling fans provide cooling through air movement that can help reduce the need for refrigerant-based air conditioning.
    • EPA WaterSense-labeled bathroom faucets, toilets, and showerheads cut water use while a real-time water meter allows homeowners to track water usage to help find additional savings.
    • The attic is insulated at the underside of the roof deck with R-38 of blown fiberglass, providing a conditioned space for the comfort system's heating and cooling ducts.
