    • High Performance Homes built this 3,748-square-foot custom home in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to the high performance criteria of the U.S. Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program.
    • The homeowners have utility bills of about $45 a month thanks to the home's super-efficient construction and 4.9-kW of photovoltaic shingles on the roof.
    • Good site drainage and other moisture management details like kickout flashing and ice-and-water shield combine with the sturdy pre-cast concrete basement and SIP above-grade walls to provide a storm-resistant home.
    • Strategically placed high-efficiency, double-pane, low-e, argon-filled windows (U=0.25, SHGC=0.29) bring natural light into the home.
    • ENERGY STAR appliances and LED lighting add energy savings and water efficiency to the home.
    • A ground source heat pump provides ultra-efficient (5.6 COP, 20.3 EER) heating and cooling of interior spaces.
    • The basement is constructed with pre-cast concrete walls lined with R-21.3 foil-faced rigid foam while an R-10 layer of XPS rigid foam covers the ground under the slab.
    • The home's above-grade walls are insulated with 6.5-inch-thick R-23 SIPs while batt insulation fills the rafter bays of the vaulted ceilings.
    • Spray foam insulation air-seals and insulates the floor above the garage.
    • The PV shingles provide a low profile on the roof.
