The Emery

    • Addison Homes built this 4,551-square-foot home in Greenville, South Carolina, to the performance criteria of the U.S. Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program.
    • The 7.62-kW solar electric generation system uses roof-integrated photovoltaic shingles for a low profile; the photovoltaics help reduce utility bills by more than $2,000.
    • The rear of the home takes advantage of a sloping lot for a conditioned daylight basement that permits more living space on a smaller footprint. All windows and skylights meet ENERGY STAR performance criteria.
    • Narrow skylights add natural daylighting to the screened porch while ENERGY STAR ceiling fans provide cooling air flow.
    • Tall ceilings and high-performance windows and skylights in the great room help flood the home’s interior with natural daylight; the remote-controlled skylights and energy-saving ceiling fans provide ventilation and cooling when outdoor humidity is low.
    • The home was equipped with a high-efficiency ENERGY STAR refrigerator and dishwasher for energy and water savings.
    • Addison Homes used a variety of certified no- and low-VOC paints, flooring, carpets, adhesives, and cabinets to help meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Indoor airPLUS criteria.
    • Solar tubes bring daylight into interior spaces in the home.
    • Precast basement walls have insulation built right into them and come with a lifetime structural and moisture infiltration warranty.
    • A high-efficiency, ENERGY STAR-labeled tankless condensing gas water heater is equipped with a smart logic controller that “learns” the occupants’ usage patterns and circulates hot water through an insulated loop during the times when residents are most likely to need it.
