Assessment of Land Surface Model Performance in WRF for Simulating Wind at Heights Relevant to the Wind Energy Community
The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model was used to investigate the impact of land surface model (LSM) physics on the simulated surface energy balance and the near surface wind profile, including heights reached by a modern wind turbine. Simulations were made for a domain centered over the Department of Energy (DOE) Southern Great Plains (SGP) Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Program (ARM) Central Facility in northern Oklahoma.
