Historic Infill

    • SK Collaborative built this 2,646-square-foot custom home in Decatur, Georgia, to the high performance criteria of the U.S. Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program.
    • The covered parking is detached, keeping exhaust fumes out of the EPA Indoor airPLUS certified home.
    • Covered entryways, screened porches, and three-foot overhangs protect windows, walls, and visitors from heavy rains and summer sun.
    • ENERGY STAR appliances, WaterSense plumbing fixtures, and LED lighting add to energy and water savings.
    • Three ductless mini-split heat pumps provide efficient heating and cooling for the entire home.
    • The advance-framed 2-by-6 walls have open headers providing more space for insulation.
    • The coated OSB sheathing has an adhered layer of R-3 rigid insulation to provide thermal, air, and water protection in one installed layer.
    • The coated wall sheathing is taped at the seams and around windows and piping to provide a continuous drainage plane under the fiber cement siding.
    • The advance-framed walls are filled with blown fiberglass that completely fills the wall cavities.
    • A mesh plastic rainscreen product separates the coated OSB from the siding, providing a drainage and ventilation gap.
