Marine Drive

    • Clifton View Homes built this 2,408-square-foot zero energy home in Coupeville, Washington, to the performance criteria of the U.S. Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program.
    • The ultra-efficient home has 7.84 kW of solar electric panels on the roof, which contribute to zero utility bills for the homeowners. The roof is built with structural insulated panels (SIPs) that are 10.25 inches thick and provide a continuous R-40 blanket of insulation.
    • The natural comfort balancing system uses high thermal mass concrete floors scored and stained to look like tiles. These concrete floors help enhance comfort by storing excessive heat from solar gain and retaining heat from the radiant floor loops.
    • The highly efficient ENERGY STAR dishwasher, refrigerator, and clothes washer add to energy and water savings.
    • Advanced solid-state lighting technology is used throughout the home with LED lamps in nearly all of the fixtures.
    • The ultra-efficient SIP thermal blanket roof allows for cathedral ceilings in nearly every room of the house.
    • All of the home's bathroom and kitchen plumbing fixtures are EPA WaterSense labeled, providing both energy and water savings.
    • The SIP thermal blanket walls are constructed with 6.5-inch-thick walls panels (R-25). Corrugated house wrap helps ensure effective drainage under the fiber cement siding.
    • The same ultra-efficient air-to-water heat pump (COP 4.5) that provides hot water for the in-floor radiant heat also provides hot water to the home's showers and faucets.
    • The detached garage includes an electric car charging station.
