First Thursday Seminar covers the need for additional combined heat and power (CHP) resources, reviews the use of CHP in the Federal sector, and summarizes various prime mover and thermally activated technologies and their applications. The seminar also covers case studies and best practices and the opportunities to develop alternative financing and project funding to support CHP technology deployment.
Learning Objectives
- Define CHP for on-site power generation
- Discuss potential benefits of CHP for the learner's site or facility including whether the site has characteristics that make CHP cost-effective
- Discuss "prime mover" and "thermally activated technologies," including the advantages and limitations of specific technology options
- Conduct a feasibility analysis to inform the technical feasibility and cost effectiveness of implementing a CHP project
- Understand best practices and lessons learned from CHP projects in the Federal government
- Consider the potential financing vehicles including CHP as part of an energy conservation
- measure in energy savings performance contracts, utility energy service contracts, and power purchase agreements
Distributed Energy and Energy Procurement
This curriculum offers courses that cover distributed energy, renewable energy technologies, project implementation and validation, energy procurement options, and more.
Renewable Energy Technologies and Procurement
Energy and Cyber Security Integration
This curriculum offers courses that help federal agencies and private entities to actively identify, prioritize, and mitigate the risks of cyber or physical attacks on facility-related control systems while maintaining the required levels of service for efficient operations.
Strategic Energy and Water Program Development, Integration, and Risk Management
Operations and Maintenance
This curriculum offers courses that encompass the operations and maintenance (O&M) of systems and equipment found in facilities. The courses feature resources that can help energy managers gain management support for O&M programs and save energy and money.
